Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work on custom projects?

Absolutely. We have decades of experience managing all aspects of the product creation process and bridge the disciplines of brand, design, development and production. We have worked at Fortune 100 companies in our past lives and consulted for the same companies on a variety of projects from hard goods (injected, machined, cast, formed) to soft goods (bonded, welded, cut & sew, hybrid) and everything in between. We have an inner circle of trusted creative partners and resources to complete jobs both domestically and overseas. We span a wide range of industries from automotive to consumer electronics and sporting goods equipment. We approach projects hands-on designing by prototype. A process that balances form and function. A process producing functional simplicity and beauty. Please contact us to discuss any projects (simple or crazy) that you may have – we can provide you with more details and background as needed.

Do you have a dealers list? Where can I see the parts in person?

Currently, we are just online direct. Hopefully, you’ll be able to see our parts on our own Asfolt backdated/outlawed 911 at the larger shows but we are in the process of having some key builders stock parts on-hand for their builds and customers. Please stay tuned to our blog and Instagram for further information once finalized. We will also provide information on upcoming shows we will be attending.

What Porsche models do Asfolt parts fit?

Initially, we have started out with parts focused on Porsche 911 G Series, specifically around the 1984-1989 Carrera 3.2 Series. However, based on Porsche component and specs, some Asfolt parts fit all G Series including the SC and Turbo models. Some parts also fit 964 (1989 – 1994) and 928 models. If you have questions, we can send additional dimensional information. Parts are identified with the models and years they fit.

What are the weights of the parts?

911 and 964 Aluminum Door Pins are only 4g and 7g, respectively per pin. The Titanium version in both is slightly heavier by a few grams. Aluminum Ignition Bezels are 33g; Titanium 53g. Door Lock Knobs are 20g per Knob in Aluminum and 33g in Titanium. Typically when using Titanium, because of the strength capabilities, you can use a thinner wall thickness. However, in our parts, we love the warmth (color) and finish of Titanium over pure weight reduction so we machined the same dimensions/thicknesses for both.

Why do you only make parts for select Porsche models?

We focused initially on solutions for our own build, which lead us down this road. We will look to expand and also explore some other manufacturer solutions. But, we think the iconic Porsche 911 is a good place to start.

Can I install Asfolt parts on my own?

In general, yes. Our parts are designed to be direct screw-on or bolt-on replacement of the factory parts and can be installed with simple tools. In some instances for example, you may need to be careful to avoid any parts or supporting parts from falling behind the door panel. The parts are simple interior parts but if you have any hesitation, please contact a qualified professional shop to ensure a safe and proper fit. Every vehicle, especially when they are 30+ years old, have its own personality and while Asfolt designs products to fit better than plastic factory parts, there may be the possibility of some very minor alterations in order to achieve the best fit possible. When this is required, we recommend having a qualified shop examine the part(s) to modify if necessary. Please reach out if you have any questions regarding installation.

Are Asfolt parts reliable?

Asfolt started based on a 911 build where we could not find parts we liked to replace the plastic OEM interior parts. We have designed our parts to meet and exceed OEM specifications. We will also describe the materials we are using. For most of our interior parts currently on our site, we are using either 6063 Aluminum or TA1 Titanium. Both are ideal materials great for machining and are often used in watches, outdoor equipment, automotive and medical applications for its weight, strength, and corrosion resistance. Unlike the OEM plastic parts, we also like the way these materials naturally patina over time like your favorite watch, knife or an old camera. It’s how parts should be made.

Where are Asfolt parts made?

While all design and prototypes are created here in Portland, OR, production of the machined parts are currently produced through an extremely capable supplier based in Hong Kong that specializes in watch cases and have produced parts for Swiss manufacturers. We have a long relationship with this supplier. While we will push to make new products in the USA as much as possible, the machining costs were too high domestically for smaller production runs. In addition, many OEM and Genuine suppliers are manufacturing automotive parts all over the world – both for aftermarket and the original cars themselves. Due to the high cost of labor in Germany and the USA, many large companies have shifted portions of manufacturing to Asia. We want to make parts where it makes sense and where we know the quality meets our expectations. We do have plans for future parts to be manufactured right here in Portland, OR.

What does OEM mean?

OEM is an acronym for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This term signifies the parts are originally designed for the car and originally installed on the car by the automotive manufacturer that assembled the vehicle.  The term is usually interchangeable with "factory" or "stock".

What is Asfolt's Return Policy?

We have a 30-day return policy on new and unused parts. Parts must be in their original packaging. Parts must not be used, installed or disassembled. Parts must be complete and not damaged in any way. Asfolt reserves the right to charge a 25% restocking fee on all returned items. The original purchaser must contact Asfolt to obtain a Return Authorization (RA) number and include the original invoice in the return shipment. All unauthorized returns will be refused and sent back. Items not purchased direct from Asfolt will not be accepted. Custom or special orders are not returnable, except for warranty repair or replacement. Please return any part(s) in their original packaging with the RA number clearly marked on the outside of all boxes being returned. All returns must be sent prepaid – no collect shipments will be accepted. Insure the returned part(s) for its full value to protect you against loss. If you are returning a defective part or a part that was shipped to you in error, Asfolt will either send you a prepaid shipping form or reimburse your shipping charges. We strongly recommend you ship your package by FedEx or UPS.
